30 Day Blogging Challenge: Day 1

Nearly Getting Arrested in Downtown Atlanta

Day 1: My Blog’s Name

Southern Lights, Atlanta Nights comes from a couple of my favorite things: the South and Atlanta. For those of you who know me, you know that I have a strong affinity for all things southern; especially the Atlanta skyline…at night. There’s nothing quite as magical (except that Backstreet Boys DVD) as my city when it’s lit up! As I drive down the connector at sunset, the beauty of the city can leave me truly speechless. I know, I know, that was a terribly cheesy line, but it’s true. It’s so magical when it’s lit up, it feels safe, it feels like home. I think I’ve mentioned before that I don’t think I could live anywhere else and I stand by that statement.

A few years ago Mumford and Sons played a show in Centennial Olympic Park during the summer and I remember looking back behind me (out into the city) and thinking it was the most beautiful place I had ever seen. Between the lights from the show and the city lit up behind thousands of fans, it felt like a magical sort of moment. Most people think that’s a dramatic recollection of that memory, but I think it’s dead on. It was the perfect combination of pure elation from finally seeing Mumford (with my favorite people), the sweet smell of summertime, and a skyline that is second to none (IMO) that made for that magical feeling I guess. If I could have bottled up how I felt in that moment and sold it, I’d be a millionaire without question.

So that’s it. That’s the story behind my name. Some find it cheesy, others find it cute…but me, I find it perfect!
