Wear it. Bear it.

Good morning guys! As many of you know, I am in the process of going self-hosted!!! With that fun news comes a bit of learning curve, at least for me. I am trying to figure out how to get everything transferred over and make sure that my followers come with me! I will be honest, I don’t understand any of it, but David has been working very diligently on this and really helping me with every step along the way. I will definitely come back and let you know when everything is all setup and ready for your viewing pleasure, but until then; please, please, please bare with me! You guys are the best and I appreciate all of the support you have given to Southern Lights!

Oh!!!! WE FINALLY HIT 100 followers!!!! Yaaaassssss! As promised, I will be doing a little giveaway to show my appreciation! I am still waiting on a couple of the prizes to come in the mail, but they should arrive this week so a giveaway will be coming your way ASAP!! Also, I will probably wait until the new site is up and running before launching the giveaway; but as always, I will keep you posted and come back here to update you if anything changes!!!

Where Have I Been_

Hey y’all, I’m back-ish! Sorry I’ve been a little MIA on the blog recently, I’m currently in the process of switching from to…and well, it’s taking a little longer than I thought it would. If any of you have made the jump to a self hosted site then you probably understand exactly what I’m going through right now; and if not, just know that I’m trying my best and will be back to my regularly scheduled posting ASAP! I’m working on a new theme that will be easier to navigate, while offering clean lines and a more modern look (yaaasssss). My saint of a boyfriend has been helping me (and by helping me I mean doing it for me) with the transfer and I think we are pretty close, so standby! Of course when I get everything finished I will do a post dedicated to my new site and my experience in switching over (in case any of you are thinking of doing the same)! Thank you so much for all of your support over the last few months; your kind words and comments never go unnoticed! Have any of you made the leap to a self-hosted site? Anything I should know?

baby shower

Holy cow, it’s already MAY!! Can you believe that?!?! I know I have done a number of “favorites” posts lately and I promise I’ll do less of those in the coming days, but I still wanted to pop on here and share some products that I have been loving in the month of April!

* Tarte Double Duty Beauty Contour & Highlight Palette ($30): This palette is just the best! The contour shade is perfect for lighter skin tones and the highlighter is absolutely stunning! Bonus: it smells like milk chocolate!!! I know I’ve mentioned this product on the blog before but since I’ve been using it non-stop the last month, I just HAD to include it! If you have a lighter skin tone and are in the market for a contour powder that isn’t too dark or too light, this might really work for you!

* Bare Minerals Gen Nude Radiant Lipstick – Queen & Mantra ($20): I’ll admit, I’m not a HUGE lipstick person. I often find them to be annoying and too much work. I feel like they never look good on my skin-tone, or they’re too drying, or they fade weird and make me look like a crazy person at work…(not a good look), but I absolutely LOVE these! They are creamy & hydrating and have a nude shade that would suit a variety of different skin tones. They are relatively long wearing and perfect for everyday!

* Too Faced Born This Way Foundation – Vanilla ($39): When I’m looking for a more full-coverage makeup look, this is the foundation that I reach for. I find that I can get full coverage without looking too cakey. It doesn’t break me out or irritate my skin and looks great in pictures!

* Rosebud Salve ($6): This stuff is AMAZING. I absolutely LOVE it. I have terribly dry lips (mostly in the winter months) and this salve has saved me on more than one occasion. I use it on everything from dry lips to dry elbows, it’s something I literally can’t live without.

* Tarte Drink of H2O Hydrating Moisturizer ($39): If you have dry skin, please try this out. I typically use this after applying my PTR Therapeutic Sulfur Masque (linked below). Sometimes that mask can irritate my skin (if I leave it on too long) and leave it feeling much drier than I would like. Tarte’s lightweight gel moisturizer has a fresh, citrusy scent that helps calm my skin and allows me to maintain the proper amount of moisture!

* Peter Thomas Roth Therapeutic Sulfur Masque ($47): I have been using this mask for over 3 years now and I absolutely love it. I have sensitive skin so I don’t leave it on as long as most and I typically don’t use it as an overnight spot treatment (even though you totally could!) but I love it all the same. I generally try and incorporate this into my skincare routine 1-2 times a week depending on how angry my face is at the time. It has really helped with my hormonal breakouts and I wouldn’t be caught dead without it. I will say, If you have sensitive skin I would recommend leaving it on for no more than 5-7 minutes to see how your skin responds and then go from there! Make sure you go in with a nice, gentle moisturizer after to ensure your skin is soothed and hydrated. After all, it is an acne product and can be a little drying if you’re not careful!

* Philosophy Purity Facial Cleanser ($24-44): This was recommended to me after having an allergic reaction to my previous face wash. The consultant at ULTA told me this was gentle and good for all skin types so I decided to give it a try. I find that it does a nice job of really cleansing my face and getting rid of all the dirt, oil and makeup from the day. It’s gentle enough to not irritate my eyes and hasn’t caused any skin irritation (YAY!!!); so if you are looking for a new face wash, I think you might like this one!

* Converse Chuck Taylor “Shoreline” Sneakers ($49.95): David bought these for me a couple of years ago and I am obsessed! I love, love, love them and actually find them to be quite comfortable. They are fitted and have hidden elastic around the tongue area to keep them snug on the foot. I find that they are true to size and really create a nice look with jeans, shorts, dresses, etc.!

* Old Navy Luxe Curved -Hem Tank ($15-17): I adore these tank tops! I wear them to work with a blazer or a cardigan and it is the epitome of comfort, let me tell ya! They are pretty inexpensive and are constantly on sale! I will say, hanging them to dry is the best bet; they will definitely shrink a bit if you put them in the dryer! I have them in multiple colors and think they are a must for any wardrobe/closet!

* Adidas Women’s Superlite Climate Socks – 6 Pack ($19.99): I absolutely HATE when you can see my socks peeking out of my sneakers, it’s a true pet-peeve for me. With that being said, I have to have socks, especially when I’m working out, so I’m constantly on the hunt for a good no-show option. I have really enjoyed the Adidas Superlite socks; they stay up when I’m working out and you can’t see them peeking out of my shoes. They might not be the best of the best, but for now, they are just fine!

* Hollywood Fashion Secrets Silicone Coverups – Light ($12.99): With summertime right around the corner, it’s time for those backless dresses and low-cut shirts (not that I really wear either, but you catch my drift). Bras are a pain (#amirite) and they can ruin an outfit in 2 seconds flat. Of course going braless (with no coverage at all) isn’t really my thing, so I typically reach for these silicone coverups in times where I need a little less than a bra and slightly more than just mother nature. They are reusable and do a good job of staying put, so if you have a dress/top that just doesn’t work with your bra, try these out!

* Coach Cassidy Buckle Sandals – Platinum ($79): I love these sandals. They are cute, comfortable and perfect for summer!

* OPI Fiji Nail Lacquer Collection – Getting Nadi On My Honeymoon ($10): What a great pink shade for the summer! I have been wearing this on my toes and just can’t get enough.

What have you guys been loving this month? Anything I should try out?! Let me know below!

This is a relatively easy one for me. My proudest moment is easily when I graduated college. For those of you who know me, you know that college wasn’t even thought to be an option for me post high school (I think I mentioned my challenges around this time in my life in a previous post). I barely made it out of high school in one piece (shoutout to Jordan for making that happen) so the thought of college was disturbing to say the least. My grades were mediocre at best and I just didn’t have it in me. I took 4 years off and lived my life to the fullest which was the best decision I have ever made. I traveled some, forged meaningful relationships and just became more confident in my ability to do something…anything. People always told me that I could do it, of course I didn’t believe them, so the four years I took off were vital in boosting my confidence. When I was finally ready to return to school, I had a new sense of self and felt much more comfortable in my academic (and life in general) abilities! I graduated from Georgia State University in 2013 with a 3.82 GPA. While the number doesn’t really matter in the grand scheme of things, it matters to me. Coming from a place where I could barely get by in high school, to crushing it in college was a proud moment for me. I finally proved to myself that I could do what everyone had been telling me I could do all along!

This is a tough question for me. I’ve written a post before addressing what I want to be when I grow up and I can tell you that I feel the same way now that I did then…and that’s to say that I simply don’t know. I mean I guess I kind of want to be a stay at home wife with a fun sports (& lifestyle) blog. In theory I would love to make a living doing that, but I know that would mean that I would have to put out content even when I don’t feel like it; re: Super Bowl 51. If I had a sports blog where I had to cover certain things (the Super Bowl being one of them) and had to get things out in a timely manner, I would probably fail. I’m not sure that I was able to really think or behave like a real person for a couple of weeks after that fiasco…and well, in the world of sports journalism, they don’t care how depressed you are that you team blew a 25 point lead (tear). I would love to think that I would be able to take my personal feelings out of something like that and just write an article/blog post (etc.) about the facts, but let’s be honest, I can’t. Can you? If so, please teach me your ways. Maybe I should just stick to being a stay at home wife with a lifestyle blog such as this one…that might be safer.

So I have been staring at my computer for the last 3 hours trying to come up with what I was going to put as my favorite quote…I feel like I could go a couple of different ways here, so let me just get started!

“He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken” Psalm 62:2

What is there to really say about this? I firmly believe that the Lord is my rock; but to be 100% transparent, I surely don’t act like I believe it all the time. I promise that I do, but sometimes in the thick of life (and let’s be honest, it gets messy and hard) it’s hard to remember in the moment that everything is fine and that the things you’re going through have already been laid out. I’m a relatively anxious person (ugh) so I try and keep this scripture written on a post-it note or have it on my phone somewhere so I can access it quickly. Sometimes I just need a quick reminder that HE is the one, he’s the rock and the salvation and that if I just believe in all of the things that I already know and cast all of my fears and worries unto him, I will be fine.

Fun quote:

“It’s your choice, Ace. People can live a hundred years without really living for a minute. You climb up here with me, it’s one less minute you haven’t lived.”

Now this one is a bit different. For those of you who don’t know, I have recently gotten into Gilmore Girls. I never watched it in real time; I mean I saw a few episodes here and there, but I never religiously watched the show. Thankfully Netflix has rectified this for me and has the whole series (including the reboot) on their site! So now I’m knee-deep in this series (currently in season 7) and I am firmly #TeamLogan. I’m not sure that he can do anything that would have me jump off the ship at this point and I am A-OK with that. Now, about this quote…I just feel like this is such a true statement, people go their whole lives without ever really living. They constantly play it safe and never take any risks (myself included)…where is the fun in that? Now that being said, I don’t think I would jump off that thing that Rory and Logan jumped off of…I don’t really have a death wish. Then again, I don’t know if I can REALLY rule it out; he’s pretty charming and persuasive so who knows!

So those are the my favorite quotes (at the moment). Obviously the scripture is the more serious of the 2 and the Gilmore Girls quote is just more fun/funny! I think there’s a place for both, don’t you agree?!?!

Now let me get to writing the other posts that I’m behind on! See you in a couple hours!
